“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”- Marianne Williamson
This New Years, I've discovered like Janus that I can not look forward without looking back first. After coming across this post above, I can fully relate to how such an incident (involving a teacher) can greatly impact you. While I was at university I remember at times how brutal the critiques could be. There was one event that specifically struck a heavy chord in my heart, which involved one of my tutors tearing up the art work of one of my peers. From then on I had this constant fear of having the same thing happen to me due to past parental conditioning. This feeling of shame and rejection in regard to expressing myself that has manifested throughout my adult life as self doubt and imposter syndrome when it came to my creativity. With that, these are some books I read last year in hope of overcoming this weight on my psyche.
Parental conditioning: Also known as childhood conditioning, is a parenting style where parents withhold or give affection and approval based on whether their children meet their expectations.

Imposter syndrome: Is when people believe that they are undeserving of their achievements and the high esteem in which they are, in fact, generally held.
